For families, executors, and realtors in NL
Sell an Estate in Newfoundland
We come to you, photograph and catalog everything, run the auction, and coordinate pickup. You don't lift a finger.
We know this is hard
Most people calling us are dealing with one of three situations: a parent has passed and the house has to be cleared, a senior is downsizing into a smaller place, or a realtor needs the contents gone before listing. None of these are happy moments. All three usually involve more stuff than anyone realizes - decades of accumulation in cabinets, basements, sheds, and attics.
EastBid handles the part where you'd normally lose your weekends to a yard sale or spend three months on Kijiji. We do this every day. We've seen what families need in this moment, and we've built the process around making it as gentle as possible.
How selling an estate works
A short call
15-minute conversation. Tell us what's there, the timeline, any concerns. We answer questions about pricing, the process, what to expect. No commitment.
On-site visit
We walk through the house with you (or alone, if you're out of province). Confirm scope, identify high-value items, agree on a launch date.
Catalog everything
Our team comes in for 1-2 days, photographs every lot, writes descriptions, sets starting bids. You can be there or not.
Run the auction
5-10 days of online bidding. We handle bidder questions, technical issues, last-minute changes. You receive a summary at the end.
Pickup day
Winners pick up at the house in a single 2-hour window. We're on-site to coordinate. The house empties out in one afternoon.
Payment to you
Within a week of pickup, your share is sent via e-transfer. Detailed breakdown showing every lot, every winning bid, every fee. No surprises.
Real numbers: a recent NL estate
Local liquidator offer
$800
For the entire contents
EastBid result
$6,000+
Net to family after fees
This was a recent St. John's estate. 7.5x more than the liquidator offered. The difference: liquidators buy wholesale to resell at retail. An auction lets real buyers compete directly.

Adult children settling a parent's estate
Often coordinating from out of province. The house has to be cleared before the realtor can list, and you don't have months to spend on Kijiji.
Seniors downsizing
Moving to a smaller home or retirement community. You've decided what to take, but the rest needs to find good homes - not just a dumpster.
Realtors prepping a house to list
The contents need to be gone for staging and showings. Yard sale is too slow and the seller doesn't have time. We handle it cleanly.
What you don't have to worry about
Pricing
Catalog fee: starting at $300, covers our team visiting and photographing the entire estate.
Commission: 27% of the hammer total. Includes online auction infrastructure, payment processing, pickup coordination, and bidder customer service.
No upfront markup, no hidden fees. If an item doesn't sell, you pay nothing on it. If you cancel before launch, you pay only the catalog fee for work already done.
Common questions from families
How much does it cost to sell an estate through EastBid?+
A flat catalog fee starts at $300 plus a 27% commission on the hammer total. There's no upfront markup beyond the catalog fee, no charges for unsold items, and no surprise add-ons. The commission covers photography, listing, online auction infrastructure, payment processing, and pickup coordination. Compared to liquidator offers (typically 10-20% of market value), families receive substantially more even after the commission.
What does the process look like?+
After an initial conversation, we visit the house (in person if you're on the Avalon; via video walkthrough elsewhere in NL) to assess scope and answer questions. If you decide to proceed, our team comes to catalog everything: photographs, descriptions, starting bids. We then run the auction online over 5-10 days. Winners pick up at the house during a scheduled 2-hour window. You receive payment via e-transfer within a week of pickup.
How long does the whole process take?+
From first call to money in your hand: typically 2-3 weeks. The cataloging takes 1-2 days depending on the size of the estate. The auction runs 5-10 days. Pickup happens the day after the auction ends. Payouts process within a week. For families on a tight deadline (closing date, out-of-province movers), we can compress this to 10 days.
Do I have to be at the house during cataloging or pickup?+
No. Once we have access to the house, our team handles everything. For executors and out-of-province families, this is often the biggest reason to use EastBid. You don't have to fly home to host an estate sale or coordinate a hundred Kijiji pickups. Many of our families are coordinating from Ontario, Alberta, or further.
What happens to items that don't sell?+
We coordinate cleanup through our preferred-vendor list of NL partners - junk haulers, donation pickups (Habitat ReStore, Salvation Army), and specialty disposal services for bulk items. You don't end up with a half-empty house full of leftover items to deal with on your own. We arrange the pickups and handle the coordination, usually within days of the auction's pickup window. If you'd rather donate certain items to a specific charity or keep specific things, just tell us beforehand.
What if I'm not in St. John's?+
We're based in St. John's but serve the entire Avalon Peninsula at standard rates: Mount Pearl, Paradise, CBS, Portugal Cove-St. Philip's, Torbay, Pouch Cove. For estates outside the Avalon, contact us to discuss - we can usually accommodate, with travel costs included in the catalog fee.
What about high-value items - jewelry, art, antiques?+
Tell us upfront and we'll discuss the best approach. Some items benefit from specialty appraisal (gold, silver, gemstones, signed art); we can refer you to an NL appraiser. For valuable antiques, we set higher starting bids so they don't sell for pennies, and we target outreach to specific NL collectors (antique dealers, cabinet makers, scaffold buyers, motorcycle owners, etc.) depending on what you have.
Will my family's privacy be protected?+
Yes. We never publish the estate's full address or your family name publicly. The auction lists items only. Winners receive the pickup address after they win, not before. Photos are framed to show items, not identifiable interiors. We treat every estate like we would our own grandmother's house.
Can a realtor refer an estate?+
Yes - and we pay a referral fee for every estate that closes through a realtor introduction. If you're a realtor whose clients are downsizing or selling after a death in the family, EastBid handles the contents while you handle the property. Email admin@eastbid.ca for the referral details.
